My Mother passed away last week. She was a few months shy of her 89th birthday. A Gemini. She was an energy cleaner. She kept her house immaculate. I thought it was because she has a , sorry, had a Virgo Moon. But in reflection my Aquarius Grandmother was the same way. “Cleanliness is next to Godliness” is what my Nana use to say. So before they knew about Feng Shui or any other non-clutter modality, they knew what felt right and did it.
My Mother had three daughters and one son. She was close to all of us and taught us to be a thoughtful and caring family. Stay connected and create strong family bonds. She was Irish, her father coming from County Cork and her Mother from Budapest. We still don’t know if they are German or Hungarian on that side because she wouldn’t talk about it. I know from my Grandmother that she was born in Hungry but right before that her parents moved from Germany. So your guess is as good as mine.
My Mother use to tell me because she was the oldest she had all the responsibilities of helping to care for her siblings. (5) and was not happy that the others got to go out to play and she had to stay and help. Her Dad was the Knight in Shining Armor to her. Unfortunately he died young and left my Nana with the responsibility of raising the family while working whatever little jobs she could get. My Mother never forgot that and stuck in her marriage all the years it took her to raise her children and give them stability.
She use to tell me stories about my father, they met while in the 3rd grade and hung around with the same crowd until they married at 18. She was so beautiful. She also had a talent for writing and drawing. Gemini traits. When I was little she would write stories or make them up on the spot for me. She’d also draw paper dolls for me.
When the other children started to come along I was her helpmate. I learned through her and my responsibilities to my siblings how to be strong.
One thing I thought was so curious is that she loved life and yet was very secretive on many levels. Years later when I learned how to do an Astrology Chart I found out she had Scorpio Rising. Her humor was spontaneous and yet she was never afraid to speak her mind.
She had two bouts with Cancer and beat them both. I use to tell woman who had gone through it how my Mom beat it and her age and it gave them hope.
Mothers and Daughters: Sometimes they get along, sometimes they have differences of opinions. But always the underlying bond is there. When one needs something, anything, the other accommodates.
Probably the things I loved most about her is that she was always on my side, no matter what. She never lied to me, even if I wasn’t ready for the truth. She was never afraid to try something new. She was a real prankster at times and lived life with joy. When I was little she was like a little kid herself, on Christmas eve she would wake me up and say “Didn’t you hear Santa?” (it was her on the stairs ringing the bells) Then she’d get me up to see all my presents. I think she enjoyed it more than I did.
In her later years I could see the wear and tear on her. When we’d go shopping she’d have to sit every so often to rest. But she still got out there with us.
Well, thanks for letting me vent.
One quick story. While in High School some of my friends talked me into ditching the afternoon and going to the show. Of course the truant officer found us and brought us to the police station where they called our parents. When I got home, my Mother was sitting on the stairs of the front porch waiting for me. She never hollered or raised her voice. Just sat there telling me some of the stuff she and her friends use to do at my age.
God Bless Mothers and may we honor them by being the best Mother we can be.
